How to Put Together a Garage Organizer
If your garage is anything like most people’s, it’s a little scary. Even if it’s well-kept, chances are it could use a little organization help. Garages are just big, empty squares, so it can be a little difficult to envision a good organizational system. That’s why I am here to help you.
For great garage organization, there are a few simple accessories I think are absolutely necessary. Let’s get going!
Bike Hangers: If you keep even one bike in your garage, it should be up on a hanger. Bikes have a way of always being in the way if they’re left parked on the floor- gears get caught in skirts as you get in the car, someone trips over the kickstand, the helmet falls off and trips someone else- numerous catastrophes can be avoided by a simple bike hanger. Prostor sells a great, simple option for a very low price. So easy, no one should be without it. If there are more bikes, there are hangers for multiple bikes, or you can just install the required number of single bike hangers. This immediately clears floor space in the garage and helps it feel more clean and open. Plus, you don’t have to worry about knocking over bikes when you pull in with your car.
Lawn and Garden Rack: Do you have rakes, shovels and brooms all piled in a corner? Get them on the wall too. As with the bike rack, a Lawn and Garden Rack is a very simple solution that yields great results. Really, the most important thing in putting together a garage is getting everything off of the floor and onto the walls. No more tripping over fallen shovels or getting hit by rogue rakes.
Parking Guides: The tennis ball hanging from the ceiling was a good idea, but parking guides are a much neater way to better accomplish the same thing. A simple (are you noticing the trend here?) rubber flap with a “mini speed bump” alerts you to when you’ve pulled in far enough so you don’t hit anything in front of you or get the back of your car bumped by the closing garage door.
Sports Equipment Hangers: Again, simple ways to get things off the floor and onto the walls. From fishing poles to skis to ski boots to wakeboards- there is a way to get it on the wall and out of the way.
Flow Wall Organization System: 6×4 panels equipped with durable hooks and straps for hanging all of those odd, leftover items that don’t really fit anywhere else. In my garage, there’s a Flow Wall panel for all of our extra gardening tools, like little shovels, an extra hose, buckets, etc. This is probably the most useful garage organizer I’ve found so far.
MonsterRax Overhead Storage: Say it with me- get everything off the floor and onto… the ceiling! MonsterRax overhead storage racks do exactly what the name implies; they are hung from the garage ceiling, and are a perfect place to store seasonal items and bins of other items you use less often.
FoldAWay Ball Cabinet: For some reason, balls always seem to escape from whatever drawer, bucket or box they’re put in. Not so with this ball cabinet, where a net keeps them securely in place. This is a must for anyone with more than one ball, be it a football, basketball, rugby ball, etc.
Work bench: Almost everyone has the DIY urge once in a while, and when you do, you need a place that is conducive to it. Work benches are useful for storage, as well, especially for tools and odds and ends for repairs.
This might sound like a lot of necessities, but as a garage organizer set, it’s really quite simple. Each of these products has a specific purpose, and will help you clear your garage floor and fill up the empty walls for an organized, put-together room you can actually park your car in.
